Benecol® - a safe and natural way to reduce cholesterol
The consumption of Benecol® foods is safe and well-tolerated. This has been shown in extensive safety tests, in more than 70 published clinical studies and 20 years of safe use of Benecol products globally. Safety assessments have been conducted by food safety authorities in several different countries.
Plant stanol ester has been evaluated and declared safe by number of food authorities including:
- European Union (European Food Safety Authority EFSA)
- USA, GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status by Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Japan, FOSHU (TOKUHO) status
- China, New Resource Food approval
Plant stanols are practically unabsorbed, and are effectively excreted from the body. Levels of plant stanols in the blood remain very low even after continuous long-term use of Benecol.
